Effects of experimental frenzy on warren instigator

Asked by shuey 5 years ago

Experimental Frenzy prevents you from playing cards from your hand (assuming you don’t pay for it to be destroyed). If I had a Warren Instigator that hits my opponent for damage would his ability be nullified by the experimental frenzy?

Warren instigator’s ability says put a goblin creature card from your hand on to the battlefield, is that the same as playing a card? I can’t find any reference to put as opposed to play in the rules though I may be looking in the wrong spot.

To play a card is to play it as a land or cast it as a spell, whichever is appropriate.

Warren Instigator is not playing the Goblin creature card from your hand (casting it as a creature spell), just putting it straight onto the battlefield. Experimental Frenzy doesn't nullify this.

Experimental just says play so you can't play a land, putting onto the battlefield will still work, just like you can play a creature with even CMC using Elvish Piper when Void Winnower is in play on the opponent's side of the board
