Cavern of Souls with a colorless commander

Asked by Panda213 7 years ago

So, to the point, can I add colored mana to cast my colorless commander so that it can't be countered? Or is that no longer now it works?

Yes you can.

You were always allowed to do this, but under previous rules if you tried to add mana of a color outside your commander's identity then it would automatically be turned colorless. The only difference now is that the mana you make from Cavern of Souls will still remain the color you chose.

The only problem under the current rules is if your commander is Kozilek, the Great Distortion and you have enough generic cost reduction to bring him down to you won't be able to spend the colored mana produced by the Cavern of Souls to assist with that cost. However, this is a very difficult situation to get into.

I'm running Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger so that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the heads up though.
