Can you target with a white spell you control Stormbreath Dragon?

Asked by SithLord 9 years ago

It says clearly on the card Stormbreath Dragon is Banishing Light free! However, does this entitles me not be able to target my own creature since it has protection from white? If I was to bestow Eidolon of Countless Battles on it, is this a illegal move or no?

No. Protection doesn't work like hexproof. It applies to your stuff too.

Basically, protection from X means:
This permanent can't be blocked by creatures of quality X.
This permanent can't be targeted by spells of quality X and abilities of sources of quality X.
This permanent can't be equipped or enchanted with cards of quality X.
All damage that would be dealt to this permament by sources of quality X is prevented.

It doesn't matter who's controlling those sources.

This can be a downside sometimes, but sometimes it can be a huge benefit, giving you access to really interesting combos and synergies. You might not think so at first but White Knight and Pestilence are totally BFFs.
