Blinking vs. removal

Asked by K34 8 years ago

If I have a creature being targeted by instant speed removal like Path to Exile and I blink it with Cloudshift or Eldrazi Displacer, when does it come back into play? Does it come in right after the stack empties, thereby dodging removal, or does it jump out and back in right in front of path and still get exiled?

Once a creature changes zones, assuming it is not a token, it becomes a new object. This means that is a 'different' creature than the one that the removal was targeting and therefore dodges the removal.

To answer your question directly: it comes back immediately - in fact, it comes back as a part of resolving Cloudshift or the Eldrazi Displacer ability, in the same exact "stage" of the stack resolution as he was exiled.

However, as merrowMania rightly pointed out, it's going to be a new object when it comes back. It's technically going to be a different creature than the one that Path to Exile had targeteted, and Path to Exile is not going to able to find it anymore and is going to be countered by game rules, since it doesn't have a legal target anymore.
