Arjun tricks
Asked by RicketyEng 7 years ago
If I have Arjun, the Shifting Flame and Eye of the Storm in play when I cast an instant or sorcery does Arjun get triggered once or twice? That is, does Eye exile the spell off the stack, or instead of it going on the stack, or does that even make a difference?
I would also like someone to explain to me how Eye of the Storm interacts with Possibility Storm. I suspect that the effects can change depending on what order the abilities go on the stack.
I am most interested in which parts of these interactions result in the most triggers for Arjun.

Ok, thanks for the first answer. If the Possibility Storm is allowed to resolve before Eye of the Storm, would the card not get returned to the library and then not be available for the eye to exile? I can see it working the other way around though if Eye resolves first, exiling the spell off the stack, then Possibility resolving (and not caring if it was the one who exiled the spell or not), leaving the spell in exile for Eye, and putting a new one there too.

For ease of conversation let's name some spells and I'll run through what happens in the two options of putting the triggers on the stack. You have Arc Lightning, Barbed Lightning, and Lava Spike exiled with it.
Scenario one Eye of the Storm resolves first:
You cast Lightning Bolt.
You stack the triggers Possibility Storm on the bottom with Eye of the Storm above it.
The Eye of the Storm trigger resolves exiling Lightning Bolt and making copies of Lightning Bolt, Arc Lightning, Barbed Lightning, and Lava Spike. You can cast any number of these copies without paying their mana cost.
The copies from Eye of the Storm resolve in FILO order that you put them on the stack.
The Possibility Storm trigger resolves. There is nothing to exile, but it doesn't matter and cards are exiled and Blazing Salvo is the first instant you come to.
You get the chance to cast Blazing Salvo, triggering Eye of the Storm again if you do. The trigger waits until Possibility Storm's effect is done resolving to be put on the stack.
The cards exiled with Possibility Storm are put on the bottom of your library.
Eye of the Storm exiles Blazing Salvo and makes copies of Blazing Salvo, Lightning Bolt, Arc Lightning, Barbed Lightning, and Lava Spike. You can cast any number of these copies without paying their mana cost.
Scenario two Possibility Storm resolves first:
You cast Lightning Bolt.
You stack the triggers Eye of the Storm on the bottom with Possibility Storm above it.
The Possibility Storm trigger resolves exiling Lightning Bolt and cards from the top of your library until Blazing Salvo is revealed.
You get the chance to cast Blazing Salvo, triggering Eye of the Storm again if you do. The trigger waits until Possibility Storm's effect is done resolving to be put on the stack.
The cards exiled with Possibility Storm, including Lightning Bolt, are put on the bottom of your library.
Eye of the Storm exiles Blazing Salvo and makes copies of Blazing Salvo, Arc Lightning, Barbed Lightning, and Lava Spike. You can cast any number of these copies without paying their mana cost.
The copies from Eye of the Storm resolve in FILO order that you put them on the stack.
The original Eye of the Storm trigger resolves. There is nothing to exile so it just makes copies of Blazing Salvo, Arc Lightning, Barbed Lightning, and Lava Spike. You can cast any number of these copies without paying their mana cost.
There is a definite choice I would make, but both of them are legal in the rules of the game.

Arjun, the Shifting Flame triggers for the original spell being cast and then for each copy from Eye of the Storm that you decide to cast. So he triggers anywhere from 1 to n+1 times where n is the number of spells exiled with Eye of the Storm including the one you cast.
Neither Possibility Storm nor Eye of the Storm are contingent upon the spell being exiled with them. So you will get both effects from casting a single instant or sorcery, then you will get another Eye of the Storm trigger if you reveal and cast something from Possibility Storm. Possibility Storm is contingent upon you casting the spell from your hand, so Eye of the Storm copies will not trigger it.
