Altered Ego (clone effect) and manlands Interaction

Asked by Gandolfini 8 years ago

How does the new card Altered Ego interact with manlands such as Mutavault and Lumbering Falls?

I'm guessing that as long as Mutavault is a creature at the time it is copied by the effect of [Altered Ego], Altered Ego will enter as a land-creature and revert to a land the next turn?

Clones and similar always enter as a copy of the creature (or whatever) as printed, with exceptions as per the card (such as Quicksilver Gargantuan).

If he copies a Mutavault, he'll enter the battlefield as a land. He doesn't gain temporary traits. He'll still get +1/+1 counters too; they can be on any permanent, they just typically don't do anything unless he happens to be creature.

The only other thing that can be perceived as possibly an exception is tokens; if he copies a token, he enters as a copy of the token as it entered the battlefield.

Ruling from the original Clone:
7/1/2012 Clone copies exactly what was printed on the original creature and nothing more (unless that creature is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesnt copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.

So when Altered Ego Copies Lumbering Falls he is also a creature, and enters the battlefield tapped?

Sorry, he does not enter tapped, but is he still a land?

Altered Ego enters as a tapped copy of Lumbering Falls because Lumbering Falls enters tapped.
