Best Modern Deck for Under $700

Modern forum

I'm looking at getting back into modern but have a couple restrictions. I don't want to put in more than $700. Also I don't want to play UR Twin, Burn, Infect, Abzan Midrange, Affinity, or Jund.

well you're f-ed then, because those are the only real "best" decks for under $700. Everything else is jank.

Well, I suppose you could play Delver?

Well, there's all the tier two decks. Esper Control comes to mind, maybe Mono U Tron and R/G Tron. Maybe Amulet Bloom. B/W Tokens? There really isn't much that's tier one that's not what you named. A large percentage of the decks are under $700.

What colors do you want to play? What play style fits you best?

Twin, Jund and Abzan are expensive decks (>$1k) but the others listed are the strongest options for your budget.

Burn is a great deck, and you will do well with it. If you don't like the fast deck play-style, I'm afraid there's nothing top tier that you can get within that budget.

We'll have to go 1 step down, to T2, which isn't necessarily bad. You have the un-interactive decks, like Tron and Amulet Bloom, which ignore what the opponent is doing and focus on winning. Grixis Delver is a very solid deck to get into, but may push your budget, depending on which build you want.

Check MTG Salvation for a list of the tiered decks, and that'll give you a good idea of both the metagame, and which deck you want to play in that metagame. (You could always do what a lot of people do; choose a deck, stick with it forever, and tune it.)

You could do naya kiki-resto flick. That deck can be a pain if you can't stop them from fiddling with their graveyard.

Merfolk tribal (Aka fish) is a pretty cool deck to run. Tier 2 and it's relatively cheap. I mean I run a Uw build and it's priced at around 300 bucks. Mono blue is probably closer to 200

Tron eggs is a pretty cheap list. Only real expense is a one of Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and 4x Leyline of Sanctity for the sideboard.

I would highly suggest an U/W/x deck such as esper or jeskai midrange/geist. Just avoid Cryptic Command and Vendilion Clique and limit the third color to a splash and you're good to go. The Snapcaster Mages hurt the wallet but the lands aren't horrible and the deck is very solid.

There is an awesome jund makeshift breach deck that's been floating around recently that's under 700

Most recently I've been looking at RG Tron, some form of Zoo, and the new Podless Pod (Collected Company) decks. I'm not sure they are competitive enough though.

All three of those can be competitive, but I'd say tron is the best. Tron isn't super cheap, and I find it a boring deck, but its good.
