Lazotep Bolas?

I’m not super up on the current storyline, but noticed Bolas in the WAR trailer and on the art of the new card for him shows a blackish tinted skin and scales. He used to be a greenish yellow. Did he lazotep plate himself or something?

Well he wants to be all powerful, so I suppose anything that makes him better at what he does makes sense

If Lazotep is like diamond strength then he basically made himself impervious to physical attacks.
I can’t otherwise explain his new color, must be Lazotep and he found a way to Eternalize himself without being killed in the process.

I’m shocked he Eternalized Bontu, figured he would’ve joined by own will.

Bontu got pissed when SHE was essentially betrayed by bolas after the defeat of the rest of the Amonkhet gods. Lazoteping her would have been the only way to force her to serve.

The point of Lazotep'ing Bontu and the other gods was so that they could pass through the Planar Bridge . Bontu couldn't have made the trip if she was alive, since she's not a planeswalker. That's probably the real reason he killed her. He has had no problem using living servants in the past, and he didn't feel the need to murder them once they'd outlived their usefulness (Sarkhan, for instance).
As for why Bolas looks darker, there's been several different artists who've depicted Bolas so far, and his green to gold ratio has fluctuated wildly over the years. His coloring in the lastest art doesn't really look like lazotep (to me at least).

DuTogira I didn’t realize Bontu was female. You know, the whole no externally distinguishing features of the sexes in reptiles thing and there not being any cards referring to Bontu that have any female pronouns. I guess could be female, seems like the sexes all opposite of Theros gods and Erebos didn’t have the protruding mammary glands indicative of the female sex in human or humanoid mammals. But then again they put boobs on Vraska which makes no sense...

sonnet666 I think you are absolutely right about the Lazotep. Like why Urza made Karn out of silver. Good call.
I’ve seen the variation but it’s usually an olivey mustard of different darknesses, this is full on blackish purple. Doesn’t look super like lazotep but thought made sense.

Oddly enough, Urza didn't make Karn out of Silver to travel the planes, but rather to travel through time. Silver was all he could put through his time machine for some reason.
He wouldn't have needed a Golem to move things between planes anyway. Planeswalkers were uber powerful back then. Urza's prefered method for ferrying people between planes was to temporarily turn them 2 dimensional for the trip. Before that he tried turning people into statues and back, but one of his student's arms broke off on reentry, so he had to come up with a better method. (The Pre-Mending stories are ridiculous.)
