Journey into Nyx Prerelease thoughts

So now with a bunch of cards spoiled and the pre release promos spoiled. Does anyone have any idea what color they might want to play? I am leaning towards blue. I really like Scourge of Fleets. Any thoughts?

There's already a big thread on the subject. Take a look at the forums before posting and we avoid some clutter. Here you go: http://tappedout.net/mtg-forum/spoilers-rumors-and-speculation/community-discussion-journey-into-nyx-reactions/

Yes but I don't think a thread has asked about what colour you're playing in the pre release so this is a bit different. I personally don't know - I'd need to see all the uncommons first. I usually plan based on how good the commons and uncommons are, not the rares. The promo I like best is the white one because it's a flier which causes people massive problems and it has lifelink which is surprisingly effective in modern. If the removal isn't looking too good then I'll opt for green because it looks to be the biggest one (that's not a ridiculous amount of mana). Last pre release there was basically only Asphyxiate to deal with things so my green stompy deck could basically do whatever it wanted. If its the case again that there's not much removal, I'll play green stompy. If there is a lot of removal I'll for white aggro fliers, probably with blue as well.

The white promo, Dawnbringer Charioteers is definitely the strongest. Works great with WR heroic and WU fliers.

I was stoked on it, until I read someone mention that you are only actually going to get 2 journey boosters. that kind of kills it for me. I will probably still go, but I wont be quite as amped.

I agree with Chubbub.

Dawnbringer Charioteers seem way to powerful for a reliable limited bomb. People were first picking Seraph of Dawn in AVR drafts. Now we have to play against a strictly better card AND the sets removal is shitty? Dear lord...

Heroes Bane is cool, my only concerns are Lash of the Whip and Rage of Purphoros . Justified choice, 8/8 on turn 6/7 seems playable. Blue might be the best ally, slapping a Stratus Walk or a Nimbus Naiad on it seems amazing.

Doomwake Giant needs to be build around, but it could work out like the Silent Sentinel deck, that card was just nuts.

Finally, Scourge of Fleets and Spawn of Thrynax push you somewhat into a color, but even a free Lightning Bolt or a Sea Gods Revenge seem to be okay. I think the Dragon is better, because it has evasion and the ability to burn a flier, while the Scourge has to force itself through the splittet bestow creatures and recasted creatures.

I like heroe's bane for the potential of blowing someone out on a pump spell with it then activating its ability since it adds counters equal to power instead of just doubling counters. Dawnbringer seems really strong because it has a lot of bestow and targeting throughout the block i feel that both of them will be tough cards to deal with. Doomwake is a huge body that is hard to remove and could be good but its only until eot on its ability. Spawn and Scourge just don't seem to great forcing mostly mono colored or splashing second colors. To me in sealed that just doesn't seem like a good thought. If I had to choose it would be the dragon since it can burn a flyer or player and like TexasDice said scourge only sends them back to hand so bestow just drops off like hey im still here so seems a little easier to deal with

I have to add here an observation I totally forgot: Doomwake Giant is ABSURDLY splashable. If you build a really good G/W Constellation deck or whatever, you can easily splash for the Giant and it will be totally worth it. That might be more relevant to draft than sealed, but there you go.
