Older foil card(s) question

I recently purchased a foil Replenish. I don't own many older foils but I noticed this one was a little different. The art of the card itself is not foil just everything outside of the artwork. Is that normal?

Also, there is a very faint line through the middle of the card horizontally. I would say it is from bend testing it too much but it is so perfect I have some doubts about it.

Were older foils just not foil in the art? Because I have a foil Merieke Ri Berit that is foil all the way through the card. Trying to get a photo.

What is the likelihood of it being a fake? If it is it's a dang good one.

Urza's foils are just foil on the card border. It was one of the first sets they tried the foiling process and obviously they didn't like the results that go around.

If you have doubts though, a picture of it would be helpful.

I still don't know how to post photos here properly. Hopefully this link works, I'm having issues with it. The line I mentioned is on either side of the art at almost at the bottom. Very faint unless you're looking at it up close and hard to capture in photo.

But if the old foils were like that then I'm probably overreacting. I get paranoid if I spend any sort of chunk of money on a card, lol.

I played extensively during the Urza's block and didn't know that foils of them existed. That being said, they're very rare. I have a foil Necropotence from the Deckmasters: Garfield vs Finkel set and the foiling is exactly like yours. It must've been an older process.

I don't think it's a fake and I would double sleeve that guy!

I don't think they started foiling the whole card till 8th edition or mirrodin.

If the diagonal line you're talking about is the star with a tail on it, that was how they marked older foils. Buy any preconstructed deck from premodern times and they all came with a foil basic land that had the same star on them.

No the line is almost impossible to see in the photo. After studying it for a while I'm actually convinced now it's from bend testing the thing too much over the years. I'll just have to take extra care. Finding these near mint is difficult. This one looks great but has fine scratches all over it.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I see the line your talking about. It's hard to see as it crosses the image.... but right near the center of the card, maybe an 1/8th of an inch above the bottom of the art, you can see faint lines on both sides of the picture. It's almost like a line that cuts the card in half, so I can see why you'd think it's from bend testing. But honestly, I don't know anyone who repeatedly "bend tests" their cards. Usually if you had determined it's real after the first bend, then there is no need to bend it a dozen more times. If I had to make a venture as to what created the line, it looks like something (somewhat heavy) with a hard edge was sitting on the card and left an indent where the edge was laying. When you bend test a card, even real ones don't bend perfectly down the center like that, they tend to leave a slightly crooked almost folded line because the card is made up of multiple layers of paper. Grab a cheap basic land and give it a good bend and you'll see what I'm saying. I don't think it's something you need to worry about, however if it bothers you that much and the condition isn't what the seller advertised then you may have an argument for at least partial refund or possible exchange. (i.e. if they said it was Lightly Played, because with those scratches and the indent the card is at best Moderately Played and that's just what I can see in the photo with the glare.)

Old foils make me angry... Whenever someone plays one, I feel overcome with the urge to do this:
