Anybody else pick this up? I found 1 at target for 15$ but haven't played it yet. Excited to do so though.

If you have had a chance to play it what do you think?

It's fun. So far I've played 2 games with my friends, one with the base set and another adding the BFZ expansion. The mechanics seem solid and the pacing is nice and steady once everyone gets used to the game and feels like they know what they're doing.

The one big complaint we all had was that the AotP rulebook isn't arranged and written in the rigorous way we've come to expect from the Magic CR. There were several moments in the first game where we had to break the action to spend a little too much time searching for an answer to what we thought was a simple question (exactly what constitutes a "squad", do I keep playing if my planeswalker dies, wait wtf is a "figure graveyard", etc.). It was easier to manage the 2nd time, but we still had a couple issues.

You can pick up all 3 pieces up from Amazon for $65,

I've been interested in picking it up and dropping the card game itself, but thought that was just a stupid idwa because I also have no one else to play with.

I sorta disliked it. I found that rather than encouraging a mass all-out brawl, it ended up being one fight between two players that ended almost immediately with the removal of one player (who then just sat around for the next two hours), one two-on-one fight between the other 3 players that left them all weak/dead, and then a lot of the stronger of the two remaining players chasing the other around the map.

I got it when it first came out, and played it a bunch. After a few weeks, we started to get bored of the plain board and limited card pool, so we started using MtG cards (plabeswalkers, creatures, and for the deck) and adding stuff to the game world (obstacles, events, etc). We've recently started trying out custom cards.

In my opinion, the modding is the best part, and makes the game play like a great mix of miniature warfare and magic.

Tried it out today. It's pretty cool. I liked seeing familiar cards like Duress and Killing Wave in the mix. I played Liliana and my girlfriend played Nissa. Really excited to play a game with more people and see what that's like.

Epidilius do you have a template for doing this? I want to try this out, but I want to find a system that seems balanced.

No, not really. We just adapted different cards to fit the game.

For health, we did starting loyalty times two. If they had low loyalty (or felt underpowered after the adpatation) we would pump up the HP by another 1. Creature HP was based off of toughness, but otherwise the same.

Attack and defense were based on flavour (for PWs) or twice the power (for creatures).

Range was something we chose based on the abilities of the creature or PW.

If a creature had evergreen keywords we carried them over. If they had non evergreen keywords we made those abilities the creature had.

For PW abilities (assuming a 3 ability PW card), we tried to split the middle ability into two, and mix it with the other two abilities. If this was too much (or they had more or less than 3) we would cut some, or leave all of them.

I'll find our game when later and upload some pictures of our customs. There are also tons of custom cards (some pretty good) online you can check out.

Ive played a few more games since and am really starting to get into it. The Zendikar expansion pack adds quite a bit too it. Plus my girlfriend enjoys it more than traditional magic. I ordered the Innistrad expansion too. Hasn't came in the mail though.
