Financial Stability of a Legacy Elves Deck

Economics forum

I have been slowly over the years moving Standard to Modern and now I am almost finishing moving most of my Modern into Legacy

As of right now, building a Legacy deck is very expensive, and I have enough $$$ store credit to build 1.

I am thinking of building a Legacy Elves deck.

One important thing I want to consider in deciding which deck I want to build is:1.) Stability of the cost of the deck (a stable and also slow financial upside)

But my concern is, seeing the top 8 mtg decks for Legacy on mtgtop8.com, Legacy Elves isn't as popular as other Legacy decks.

Is there financial upside to Legacy Elves, or is it slowly dying out? or is it just not as popular as other decks.

Are there cards in Legacy Elves that might creep up in value or go the other way or get banned in the future? or potential cards in the future that might make Legacy Elves more powerful? A recent example is the Dig Through Time which made some Legacy decks really powerful, and thus it's recent ban.

Thanks for any discussion.

I don't think that Elves is going anywhere really. Financially, most of the cost of Elves is in Gaea's Cradle. The rest is mostly just Natural Order, Glimpse of Nature and the two Bayous. It's still well represented, I usually run into at least one Elves player at every Legacy event... there's even one currently playing at the Legacy Open.

Oh, also, sometimes they play a one of Sylvan Library in the side and sometimes a Progenitus.

Elves are a pretty badass Legacy deck. As Fluffy said, most of your cash is in the high dollar lands (which retain and increase in value), Natural Order, and Glimpse of Nature. Otherwise, it's an inexpensive deck with tons of synergy and fast wins.

It's a safe investment and a fun deck to play.

I'd guess slivers specifically are too narrow to get very far in general.

Elves are always a contender for top8ing somewhere. It might just lack enough players for them to happen to get into top8, like if there is 1 elves player it is less likely is what I mean than 20. It struggles against certain decks sure like anything, but like previous poster said I always notice some person playing elves at stores I go to and they do good from time to time.

Elves is definitely a stron legacy deck for all the reasons mentioned above. The biggest factor in legacy is your familiarity of the deck and your matchups. Knowing how to sideboard is HUGE. If you're a skilled pilot you can take any given deck on any given weekend far. Elves is no different.
