Deck Crisis

For reference, the deck in question: Maelstrom

The deck has worked wonderfully but now there's a serious crisis. The number of rotations have become too high for my tastes. After Khans, it's projected to be 18, nearly a third of the deck. I take issue to this because that's too many, and it takes a while to adjust the deck this way. It freshens the deck but it's increasingly becoming a hassle.

I know I can't add all the legendary dragons, nor all the ultimatums and "nobles" but I want to try and hit an even number for each cycle. Is there a solution to this madness? Randomizing it was good but it became too unstable. That's how the first version died. This time, there's just too many cards to try and shove into the deck. There's at least (projected after Khans) 28 cards I'm trying to fit in. I want to at least reduce the number of rotations to a more respectable number (like 7; 10 is fine but cringe-worthy).

I already eliminated a few cards (I'm not updating until the crisis is resolved) and it's becoming impossible to cut. I want to run them all but I can't. Again, any solutions? Thanks in advance.

Cards Eliminated:

Necrogenesis , Magister of Worth , Hallowed Burial , Identity Crisis .

Just FYI, the deck didn't link properly. It takes you to another user instead. It also looks like your deck must be set to private, because it doesn't appear on your profile. So yeah...

Why are you worried about rotations with an EDH deck?

At the risk of sounding like a douchebag...... I think you'll need to man/woman up and make a decision about a true route for the deck. If you cant fit everything in, make a seperate deck with a similiar overall theme and play them extensively in the mirror (against each other) vs an opponent who is roughly the same skill level as you.The more you do this you should be able to figure out which cards are working and which ones arent, more often than not, thusly allowing you to easily make decisions about what should be in and what shouldnt.

Once you settle on a direction you want the deck to take it will become easier to not only make solid choices on includes/excludes but I think you will also find your deck to have more success vs other random opponents. There is always going to be those cards that will fit in your color choice or even appear to fit into your scheme. Reality says you can't play em all.

Osang: Primarily because there's too many of them and I want to cut it back. I have a feeling that I may have no choice but to keep them but trim the number back, like I just said.

PreZchoICE1: There's just one, tiny problem: I want to play them ALL (I wish I can use italics or bold for emphasis). The spirit of the deck is essentially Mana Mastery in EDH form (plus with all my favorite cards in the game.

Each rotation has a theme to it: Wedge part of a cycle (Dragons, charms, etc.), same converted mana cost (Gisela, Blade of Goldnight , Drogskol Reaver , and Simic Sky Swallower , for example.

A separate deck would make both versions way too predictable (and possibly unstable). It would stagnate them; the rotations were in there because I want to play all the cards listed (outside what I removed here, obviously). What I'm looking for is a an alternative to rotations. However, that appears unlikely.

I think you may be using the "rotation" in a different manner than usual. I'm completely lost.

Well, I probably am, and I do apologize for that. I randomize the slot but with similar cards going for the same slot. (See the 2 wedge dragons, and the sideboard where Numot and co. are). I can't think of a better word. :/

EDH doesn't rotate. The article is talking about Standard.

I wasn't on about Standard. I'm saying the slots in the deck 'rotate', not the deck itself. :p

Phaetion: The term you're looking for is sideboarding, or boarding. I'll leave my suggestions there.
