I am a new magic player and I am confused with the control side of magic. How does it fully work and what are benefits to it. As well is there ways I could add it into a deck?

@Juthatan the main reason for any deck to run control elements is so that it will have a means of interacting with an opponents plays. In terms of advantage depending on the format in question it becomes more or less prevalent, for example in vintage and legacy the only thing that stands between you surviving a game and being completely destroyed by an opponent is the knowledge that you either have some semblance of control that allows you to counter or interact with your opponents play because a Show and Tell turn 3 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, or an opponent going off with a turn 1 Tendrils of Agony at a storm count of 15 is usually quite undesirable, similar to how an opponent flashing in a Deceiver Exarch at the end of your 3rd turn into a turn 4 Splinter Twin is a problem if you don't have some means of control/removal to stop the combo. Standard is one of the few formats in which control (usually) isn't so much of a necessity for survival in the format as it is useful in that if an opponent intends to play a creature or spell your not very fond of it's nice to be able to counter that spell before it resolves or get rid of it with some form of removal.

For example to illustrate the importance of control in any situation if your deck has no form of control and only runs creatures (non of whom have etb effects or control elements to them) and lands you will always be forced to allow your opponent's plays to resolve and be unable to interact with them when they have finished resolving weather it be a permanent on the field or an instant or sorcery spell that just finished resolving with a devastating effect, this puts you at disadvantage by always giving your opponent full control and priority over what happens on their field and how their deck interacts with yours.
