Saw it on opening night and absolutely LOVED it. I seriously think it's the best of the nine (including Rogue One) so far.

Though I probably need to go back and watch Episode 5 again, just to be sure :-)

im glad you liked it. Empire strikes back was my favorite. of all the films.

i honestly did not really like this film.

star wars has its fair share of one-liner cheesy jokes but i kinda found the humor a bit annoying (same with rogue one).

but i thought there were some pretty cool plot points though and thought their was excellent character development particularly with kylo ren, Po and Luke.... i was pleased that it broke away from the usual formula of "we have to destroy the deathstar....again."

I liked it, wouldn't say it's my favorite though. I liked why Luke was saying the Jedi should end, and I thought that was going to work out... but then at the end he shows how Rey will be a Jedi... so guess not :P

I liked it a lot.

The porgs are adorable but they are adorable in a good way. Unlike the Ewoks who were adorable fan service and somehow these clowns took down the 501st Legion, they're just cute. that is it. they are just cute. Cute animals exist in nature and they certainly helped lighten the tone of a movie that would have been incredibly dark without them. Think about it. Betrayal, murder and questioning the status quo are pretty deep themes for a star wars film and without those guinea pig penguins this movie would have been far too heavy.

I enjoyed that there was twists and turns I didn't see coming. I enjoyed the parts that I did see coming.

Poe's arc of hotshot pilot who is rash to someone who has actually learned from his mistakes and the sacrifices of others was really satisfying.

I wish that Rey and Kylo had more time together.

I loved so much of this movie and disliked some of it.

However, I think that the same salty ass hats who are now whining and bitching that this movie was too different are the same douchebags who whined that TFA was Star Wars all over again. They can just shut the hell up.

generally speaking i think it was pretty safe to say that TFA was basically A New Hope all over again... kinda like how you can in general say that The Justice League and the Avengers are basically the same thing... not that thats exactly a bad thing really.

I just believe this film had a really great base/source material (that is the star wars franchise) but how this film was presented/depicted just had some pretty poor deliveries...and unnecessary events.... there were times where i asked myself if i was watching spaceballs.... I do think that this film should have been a little bit darker...just a little bit... (i mean...regarding what happened to princess lea in space... did that really need to happen...)

When the movie was going dark i thought it was at its best... like the flashbacks of the events of what turned Kylo Ren to the dark side and relationship with luke. i thought that was pretty awesome actually.

I hated it. I felt it was the worst film to this day. I have an unending list of complaints. I walked out with a very bitter taste in my mouth.

Every time the people around me cracked up to the same recycled scene of the Porgs wide eyed and screaming, I just cringed.

When Leia floats through space on her wire, I cringed. That scene had so much potential, and was just very poorly directed.

Yet again, Captain Phasma played no significant role, and could have just as easily been any other storm trooper.

Those are just a few of my grievances. On the contrary, there were a few scenes amongst the garbage that I really enjoyed.

When the last bomber ship was over the sweet spot, and the pilot was struggling to get the remote to detonate I was on the edge of my seat. I think it was my favorite scene in the entire movie.

I loved the dreadnaught ships. So cool.

i agree with all those points.....I think that Leia scene is what really killed Carrie Fischer in real life.....that was straight up tacky

8vomit and Icbrgr,
I'm with y'all on Porgs = stupid and the Leia scene = lame.

But the depth of the characters (FINALLY, a Star Wars movie where characters were not just Good and Evil, but had shades of grey), the sheer beauty of some scenes (my fav': The silence after Admiral Holdo blasts through the dreadnought, but the entire battle on the salt flats was a close second), and actual plot twists (my fav': The futility of the 'Master Codebreaker' hunt) more than made up for it to me ...

I do have to say though: The Slowest Chase Scene Ever really confused me. Sure, General Hux was kind of supposed to be an idiot. But was there nobody on his staff smart enough to think about sending a couple First Order ships through hyperspace, so they could come at the Resistance ships from the other direction?!?

yeah there were some good moments in the movie and im on board with ya clayperce..the military tactical decisions of the Empire/First order are kinda ridiculous but i can move past that...

however; i just find it hard to believe that they screen tested this movie with audiences over the age of 30.... "let the past die, kill it if you have to".... thats the line that i feel was basically directed towards anyone who is an original star wars trilogy super fan....

i understand star wars is now owned by Disney and they are passing the torch to a new generation of fan base... but they also own Marvel and frankly IMO they are doing awesome in that aspect...i just expected/wanted better...and i think the cure would have been if they had the guts to be dark... like empire strikes back dark....they made a near carbon copy of A New hope with The Force awakens so i guess thats what i was expecting this time around but as seen with the Leia scene or any non-anonymous character they just didn't have the guts to move in that direction.

The scenes, the sets, the detail of the cinematography - all what you'd expect from a half billion dollar budget, if not more...there are individual shots and sequences that are everything you could ever want from Star Wars.

That said, this entire story line and the incredibly massive gaps included are embarrassingly short-sighted and dull. For me, a great movie is when the cinematography and screenplay work in unison - both equally amazing. The reality is, if this movie was created from a book, it would either be unreadable, or 95% of it would be littering the floor of the screenplay writer. This storyline is hot garbage.

Disney seems incapable of writing their own galaxy, so they are making it up as they go, with little to no definition, while playing off the nostalgia of the original movies, and then slowly killing off that past. If there were any semblance to the portion they're trying to create, I might remain invested. Instead, I just get to see the history of the franchise slowly dissipate into a force ghost.

Unlike the original trilogy, this one has a back story, but now almost nothing to bridge the gap to move it forward. Snoke went from having great potential after being introduced in TFA, to being more irrelevant than Count Dooku now. Between two movies, we get five minutes of screen time for a force-lightning wielding master that can control Rey and Kylo at will, while ruling the galaxy by leading the entirely under-developed First Order, and he dies without any indication of who he really is or what his origins are...any future reveal in episode IX is just a letdown now.

There were attempts at shock value and/or jaw-dropping moments, but they all fell short with the lack of a complimentary storyline. The worst of all being the First Order vs. Resistance cruiser chase, which is akin to Austin Powers trying to turn his golf cart around in a tunnel...if only it had been intended to be ridiculous like that. What we got was gratuitous destruction with no storyline value - perfectly enacted by all the blasters focusing on Luke near the end. I'd like to be hopeful for episode IX, but the Star Wars we all know probably just died unceremoniously instead.

"They really hate that ship!"

Movie was fine. Was hoping it would be a lot better but I guess that's what I get for having unrealistic expectations.

Getting rid of both mentor characters made sense thematically, since they want the new generation to truly take the reigns, but I wasn't a big fan of how one died like a bitch and the other was basically a deus ex machina. Don't get me wrong, Luke was fantastic in that scene, but damn.

I appreciated how they made the whole sidequest with Finn and Rose basically a dud, but it felt like a waste.

It's been 2 movies and I still don't really know what to make of Kylo or Rey. Kylo is basically unlikable and he's supposed to be conflicted, but I don't really see how they're going to make him the big bad of the next movie, especially with the First Order in shambles. Rey just continues to be an enigma, a likable one though. I appreciated the story of her parents subverting basically everyone's expectations.

I LOVED The Last Jedi!

I saw it on Thursday night and Friday night (lucky me) and enjoyed it both times. I would rank it #1 out of the series and #2 out of all Star Wars movies (The Clone Wars animated film beats it, duh! Jk I loved Rogue One).

I would agree with the sentiment that Leia floating was just really awkward lol. Like now were just using the force to protect our bodies from freezing in space that has no atmosphere and THEN moving ourselves all the way to safety (no docking door either so Po and crew shouldve been pulled in...)

I loved the character development of Luke, Roses storyline, and the overarching theme of there being a light side and a dark side to everyone and everything. I. Just. Loved it.

My favorite scene in the theater by far had to be when Kylo Ren finally had his shirt off and someone screamed, YES!!! and I was just like same.

GoldGhost012,
+1 for "They really hate that ship!"

//

My favorite line though is probably Luke's "Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong."

Or maybe General Hux's "Do you think you got him?"

I loved how it opened again with Poe Dameron being sarcastic with another First Order person.

"Sir, I think he's tooling with you."

(Ok so I've rewritten this post numerous times and this is the version that I think will come across as not intending to goad, insult, or chide others.)

I enjoyed the film, I think a lot of the more severe criticism from the fanbase is too harsh and unreasonable. Having said that, I also value the critique of the film, and I hope that the powers that be take the constructive criticism presented to heart, and make sure that episode IX really hits a home run for as many as possible. It will never please everyone.

I also feel like a lot of fans that are particularly high in sodium regarding VII and VIII are too wed to the old Expanded Universe. Which I know is great and vast and all, but frankly I find Star Wars novels hard to read (and in general not that great).

It's a big galaxy, and there's plenty of room for everyone :).

I enjoyed my time with the movie and in the end thats all that really matters. But as a fanboy I have some nitpicky things I didn't appreciate.

The biggest of these is the death of Admiral Ackbar. Thanks to his famous like "Its a Trap" he has become somewhat of an internet star and cult fan favorite. To have his death simply mentioned in passing after the fact would have been fine IF he died somewhere away from what was happening on screen. But he didn't he died in the same attack as leia's strange floating scene.

I would have much rather Ackbar took the role of Vice Admiral Holdo in the movie. Who comes out of no where for no real reason only to make the ultimate sacrifice later in the film in what could be described as "A Trap" when the first order thought she was running. I didn't care about her character making her actions, while heroic, less meaningful to me. Ackbar in that same situation though would have been epic.

The second is Kylo smashing his mask. Adam driver is easily one of the best actors in these movies and he does a hell of a job so I can understand wanting the mask off for those reasons... but the mask was so damn cool! I would have much preferred he kept it in some way. Perhaps even if it was just to spite Snoke or something.
