Will Venser's emblem bypass protection?
Asked by athena95 11 years ago
Today, my friend's Eldrazi deck I uploaded and my Blink deck I uploaded went up against each other for fun. We both know that Oblivion Ring and Journey to Nowhere work on Emrakul and so I would think his Progenitus would be susceptable to them as well, but I think Venser, the Sojourner and his emblem would be useless on protection from white/blue/color/everything, right?
Wait, you said that O-Ring and Journey to Nowhere wouldn't work on Progenitus because they target, then how come they work on Emrakul?

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn has protection from colored spells. Neither Journey to Nowhere nor Oblivion Ring target as spells. They have triggered abilities that target after the spell has resolved and the permanent has entered the battlefield.

Always check the Oracle rulings first.
1/1/2011: Venser's last ability creates an emblem with a triggered ability. The emblem is the source of the triggered ability. Because emblems are colorless, you can target permanents with protection from white or from blue, for example, with the triggered ability.
1/1/2011: Emblems behave similarly to enchantments: They have an ability that, in a general sense, continually affects the game. The primary difference between them is that emblems aren't permanents and don't exist on the battlefield. Nothing in the game can remove an emblem, simply because no other spell or ability references them. Once you get an emblem, you keep it for the rest of the game. Emblems have no color, name, card type, or other characteristics beyond the listed ability
Oblivion Ring and Journey to Nowhere don't work on Progenitus because they target and Progenitus has protection from everything.
Emblems, however, get around protection in most cases. However, Progenitus has protection from everything, which means it can't be targeted. The emblem's ability won't be able to exile Progenitus .
