Wild Pair and +1/+1 effects

Asked by Sikening 11 years ago

Ok, so I know the title isn't done exactly as it should be, but the question I have covers two bases. So here we go;

If Wild Pair is on the field with a Relentless Rats and another Relentless Rats is played. The second Relentless Rats will get buffed by the one currently on the field, but will it hit the field still as a 1/1 for Wild Pair 's effect, or does it come in as a 2/2?

Second scenario: Wild Pair is on the field and a card, such as Primordial Hydra , comes in with +1/+1 counters on it. Would you search for a 0/0, or a card with a combined power and toughness equal to the combined power and toughness of the +1/+1 counters on it?

From Wild Pair s Gatherer entry: "The game checks the power and toughness of the creature that just entered the battlefield as it exists on the battlefield. That might mean it's impossible to get another copy of that same card....."

Static buffs to creatures apply at all times they're on the battlefield. So your 2nd Relentless Rats would hit the battlefield as a 3/3, so you could search up a creature with P+T = 6.

Similar situation with the Hydra; it will enter with the +1/+1 counters on it, which will determine the creature's p/t.

I use Fertilid and have him remove all the counters on himself, then when Wild Pair checks the last known information, and I tutor up a 0/0 like Pentavus .
