What happens when you sacrifice Myr Retriever to Kuldotha Forgemaster
Asked by vbcnxm_ 11 years ago
Say I've got two artifacts on the field I am willing to sac to search for my win-con, a Myr Retriever and some other artifact, and I have Kuldotha Forgemaster on the field, if I sacrifice the forgemaster with the retriever and another artifact, will the forgemaster hit the graveyard in time for the retriever's effect to be able to target it?
Thank you, just ironing out how everything works together here.

To add a little bit to what Epochalyptik was saying: It isn't necessarily the fact that you have to wait for activation of the ability to be complete. If you activate Mirror Entity for 0 all of your creatures die upon resolution. Reveillark triggers upon dieing and all of the things that died with it are valid targets for its ability. (I'm not crazy doing Mirror Entity for 0 it's part of a combo)

They're valid targets because they'll be in the graveyard by the time you put the ability onto the stack. When the creatures die in relation to one another has less to do with their legality as targets than does when you put the ability on the stack.

I see what you are saying and what I am saying as opposite sides of the same coin. My contention is that since they all go to the graveyard and then the ability triggers and goes on the stack they are valid targets. What you are saying is that since the ability goes on the stack after they are in the graveyard they are valid targets. So its the same thing. I just wanted to clarify that it isn't the fact that something was happening while they were being sacrificed so that had to finish before anyone got priority and put triggers on the stack. It is that when multiple things move zones at the same time it is one of the few times when things happen truly simultaneously in Magic.

Myr Retriever 's ability triggers the moment Myr Retriever is put into a graveyard from the battlefield. This happens to be during the activation process for Kuldotha Forgemaster 's ability. Myr Retriever 's ability will wait until you have finished activating Kuldotha Forgemaster 's ability. After the activation process is complete, you will put Myr Retriever 's ability onto the stack and declare its target. Kuldotha Forgemaster will have been in your graveyard since the time the ability triggered, so it will definitely be a legal target by the time you put the ability onto the stack.
