What happen if the player stuffy doll target when it first enter battlefield dies?
Asked by methane123 11 years ago
Hi was playing a game of magic with my friends in a free for all casual play, he threw down stuffy doll and enchanted it with pariah and named one of my friend as the stuffy doll abilities denote. This means all damage taken by him get redirected to stuffy doll which in turn targeted my other friend. So when my friend get knock out first what happen to the stuffy doll and the pariah? I lightning bolt the controller of the stuffy doll, in this case where will the stuffy doll of the pariah redirect the damage to?

Can you clarify your question a little better? I'm a little mixed up on the players involved.

I'll try end clarify the situation:
You have a multiplayer game with you (player A), the player who cast Stuffy Doll (Player B) and another player that was named by the doll (Player C).
Player C loses the game for some reason. Stuffy Doll with Pariah now sits in play still pointing at the now non-existent player C.
The question is: what happens when Player B is dealt damage?
If you Lightning Bolt Player B, that damage will get redirected to Stuffy Doll due to the effect on Pariah . I'd assume, like CaveShinobi above, that the damage simply "vanishes" as ther is no Player C to redirect it to.

Thanks Zaghrog for clarifying my question. It is exactly as he has summarized. I was wondering just about the last part.
"If you Lightning Bolt Player B, that damage will get redirected to Stuffy Doll due to the effect on Pariah . I'd assume, like CaveShinobi above, that the damage simply "vanishes" as ther is no Player C to redirect it to."
Does this really hold true? One possibility is that since there is no valid target for Stuffy Doll to redirect to, it simply does not redirect the damage at all and instead the damage get dealt to Stuffy Doll itself. So damage does indeed go through but since Stuffy Doll is indestructible therefore it is not destroyed. Any one else has any other interpretation?

Yes the Stuffy Doll gets the damage. If you really want to abuse the doll in multiplayer just give him a Flickerform . When the doll comes back in you can then select a new target player.

I need to clarify something about this scenario.
The damage will be redirected to Stuffy Doll by Pariah , but that damage will not "vanish." It will still be dealt to Stuffy Doll . Note that Stuffy Doll 's ability is NOT a redirection effect. Rather, it is a triggered ability that triggers when Stuffy Doll is dealt damage. So Stuffy Doll will eat the damage, then its ability will trigger.
Because Stuffy Doll 's ability is a nontarget ability, it will trigger even if the chosen player has left the game. When the ability resolves, it does nothing.

Furthermore, if Stuffy Doll 's ability were a replacement effect, it would not redirect the damage if the chosen played were no longer in the game.
614.9. Some effects replace damage dealt to one creature, planeswalker, or player with the same damage dealt to another creature, planeswalker, or player; such effects are called redirection effects. If either creature or planeswalker is no longer on the battlefield when the damage would be redirected, or is no longer a creature or planeswalker when the damage would be redirected, the effect does nothing. If damage would be redirected to or from a player who has left the game, the effect does nothing.

Stuffy Doll
Pariah
Please link the cards.
In that case, I suppose the damage would just "vanish". Don't take my word for it, though.
