Upkeep on the next turn, and enchantments

I read this first post yesterday:

http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?p=9555504 (the spoiler need not be read)

And I realised that an enchantment's effects go on the stack on the next turn during the upkeep. I did not know this. Since the effect goes on the stack, could it be countered in any way? Say with a counter spell? An enchantment's effect is not considered as a spell, but since it is going on the stack isn't it technically a spell?

If not, from what I'm understanding, that player could have won the game because he could tap Lobber Crew before his turn for 1 damage, and then tap him again when his turn starts for another 1 damage, winning just one resolution away from losing himself.

The cards in question:Sewer Shambler Lobber Crew Stab Wound

You answered your own question. An ability is not a spell. Existing on the stack does not make an object a spell. Only cards or copies of cards can be spells.

However, there are spells and abilities that can counter abilities. For example, Voidslime , Stifle , Trickbind , and Azorius Guildmage can all counter abilities.

The player in that situation should have won the game by activating Lobber Crew 's ability at EoT, then activating it again on his own upkeep in response to Stab Wound 's triggered ability. He misplayed by conceding.
