Two seperate questions about: Brutal Hordechief & Auratog

Asked by Not_Sure 8 years ago

Brutal Hordechief: In reference to it's activated ability, if I can choose how the blockers block; can choose to have the blocking creatures block nothing?

Auratog: If I sacrifice Ordeal of Heliod for Auratog's activated ability would it trigger it's +2/+2 as well as the Ordeal's: When you sacrifice ......... ability?

  • As a side-note too this, with other enchantments' sacrifice abilities like Aura of Silence; can they too activate Auratog's ability? I would think not, considering it doesn't include the word whenever similar too Ordeals.

Brutal Hordechief says they must block so you must have them block. They can however all block a single goblin token.

You can activate Auratog's ability to pump himself and the Ordeal of Heliod will trigger giving you 10 life. You can not however pump the Auratog when you sacrifice the Ordeal to the counter adding ability or if you sacrifice any other enchantment for any reason other than his pump ability.

Blocking nothing is not a legal block if the creature is required to block.

Also, please ask unrelated questions in separate threads.

To add on to the answer you cannot sacrifice something for one activated ability (Auratog) to fulfill another activated ability (Aura of Silence). They are both separate activations and the only reason the Ordeal would work is because it is a triggered ability whenever it gets sacrificed and not an activated ability where the cost is to sacrifice it.
