Two headed Giant cards that say "_ you control"
Asked by bundyaus 11 years ago
If my partner had a card that stated "_ you control", like Spear of Heliod , would that apply to me as well?

Permanents and spells are controlled by only one person at any one time, therefore a card that is put onto the battlefield, or cards cast by a teammate during a two (or three, or seven, for that matter) headed giant game are not controlled by you, and therefore static and activated abilities which count the number of objects controlled by a player count only the objects a player controls, and not cards that were put into the battlefield and/or cards that were cast under the control of a teammate (or opponent, obviously).

When a card says "you" that means this will only effect the controller of said card.
You can however play enchantments on any player, thus buffing their creatures? Maybe your board is empty but your partner has 10 creatures out, your partner may be better off with the Spear of Heliod being played on him instead.

@Swagrid: You can play auras on any legally enchantable object, but you still control the aura. Additionally, Spear of Heliod is not an aura. You can't enchant another player, and you can't donate it to another player without an effect.

Auras which enchant a player do exist, however a great majority of those were the "curses" introduced during the Innistrad block. There are a few others such as Paradox Haze and Wheel of Sun and Moon , which can be beneficial for your teammate depending on how they interact with their deck.
Being someone who's played a good deal of two-headed giant, communication and card interaction with your teammate can help a lot. I've used Curse of Stalked Prey in a Vampires deck I built initially for team play with a friend's Vampires deck. Both players benefit as their creatures gain +1/+1 counters from dealing combat damage to your enchanted opponent. I've also used Kessig Wolf Run to pump up a teammate's attacking Taunting Elf for a board sweep effect. Depending how generous you feel, you can also use "target player draws #/X card(s)" effects in place of "(you) draw #/X cards" to help your teammate recover from an unfavorable board state.

Also of note in a 2 Heaqded Giant game, Spear of Heliod
's activated ability only applies to creatures who have damaged the controller.
810.9. Damage, loss of life, and gaining life happen to each player individually. The result is applied to the teams shared life total

I think that effect applies for damage to the team though. I presume that they wouldn't make the second effect useless in 2HG.

@KingSorin: Unfortunately, that's not true. As per 810.9, damage is applied to individual players.

No. "You" refers only to the individual controller. Spear of Heliod is controlled by your teammate, not by the team.
