Turning Lands into Islands

If I use Sea's Claim to turn a Mutavault into an island, does the Mutavault still retain it's ability to turn into a 2/2?

Nope, it's just an Island .

Shane is correct. Just to expand a little further, lands only retain previous abilities if the card that alters them specifies that it becomes X in addition to its other types. For example, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would make a Mutavault into a "land - swamp", with the abilities to tap for black mana, tap for colourless mana and pay 2 mana to turn it into a creature. However, cards like Blood Moon and Sea's Claim don't say "in addition to its/their other types" and so the lands just become Mountain s or Island s, and nothing else.
