Tooth And Nail rules question

Asked by vishnarg 7 years ago

The situation:

5 player multiplayer game. An opponent has cast rite of replication and created 5 triskelions. I have 9 mana and tooth and nail in hand. I tap out and cast tooth and nail entwined. No counterspell are presented, and it resolves. I search my library for deadeye navigator and palinchron, add them to my hand and shuffle my library. I then go to put them both into play.

This is where things get dicey. We agreed that no two creatures can enter the battlefield exactly simultaneously, so I choose to let deadeye enter first. The debate is whether or not priority passes to each opponent before I have palinchron enter the battlefield as well. My understanding is that the tooth and nail must finish resolving completely before anybody can react. In this case, I would be able to untap my lands and flicker my creatures for infinite mana and thus win the game. How does this whole scenario actually play out?

Tooth and Nail, Palinchron, Deadeye Navigator, Triskelion

Actually the creatures enter the battlefield at the same time. When they enter the battlefield the soulbond ability of Deadeye Navigator will trigger and be put on the stack. Also Palinchron's ability will also trigger and be put on the stack. You can order the stack as you choose.

However, before the abilities resolve, priority will pass and your opponents will have a chance to react.

The two creatures do enter at EXACTLY the same time so yeah that part of the premise is already wrong. However as Shane said both of the triggered abilities have to go on the stack and resolve, so your opponents have plenty of opportunities to stop your shenanigans. They can even allow you to do Palinchron's ability a set number of times before deciding to stop you. They simply respond to the Soulbond trigger before the creatures gain the abilities it grants but after both creatures are on the board.
