Tezz Schemer and Silas Renn

Asked by TheMagi 6 years ago

If I have Tezzeret the Schemer's emblem, and Silas Renn, Seeker Adept on the battlefield, then choose Silas to become a 5/5 Artifact Creature, does Silas Renn still keep his abilities?

Yeah, Tezz doesn't overwrite any of the target's abilities. Silas Renn would still have his Deathtouch and triggered ability. Similarly, Darksteel Ingot would still be indestructible and be able to tap for mana, etc. Darksteel Relic is a popular choice for effects like this and Ensoul Artifact for exactly this reason, it's free to drop, and retains its indestructibility when animated.

Yes, because the emblem's effect doesn't specifically say anything about removing the artifact's abilities, Silas Renn will keep them.

The only time changing a card's types will automatically remove abilities (without the effect specifically saying so) is if you give something a basic land type with an effect that doesn't say something like "in addition to its other types". In that case, the card will only have the basic mana ability for that land and no other abilities.
