Temple of Malady, Silence, Malice produce multiple colors of Mana?
Asked by L0ckd0wn 9 years ago
So... "Tap: Add black or green mana to your mana pool" means tap it to PAY FOR either a black or green mana cost...?
Been searching for the answer to that.. It's also 3 AM.. So please excuse my ignorance.
I'm looking for a simple "yes" or "no".. Flame me later if you must, but please, not now.
thank you :)
Basically, you can normally tap a Forest for green mana (to use to pay for spells and abilities and such). You can tap a Swamp for black mana. You can tap a Temple of Malady for either green or black mana, giving it the flexibility to cast both green and black cards even if you have no other lands.
As an aside, please remember to put to brackets around card names (like [ [ Temple of Malady ] ] , without the spaces) in order to link them.

You don't actually tap lands to pay for costs.
You tap lands to add mana to your mana pool, and you use mana in your mana pool to pay for costs.
The benefit of Dual Lands is that you can add either colour to your mana pool, allowing you to use that mana to pay for spells of multiple colours more easily.
The fact that paying costs for spells is a two-step process is mostly invisible in the game but ends up becoming relevant to understand when you're dealing with cards like Doubling Cube or even Omnath, Locus of Mana

Oops! Thanks for the reminder :)
Boza, Drilnoth and Devonin, I tried to mark all three answers as accepted, but it only lets me choose one. Thanks to all three of you for your answers :)

You can link the cards you are asking about using double square brackets:
[ [temple of malady] ] = (remove the spaces) Temple of Malady
Basically yes.
Mana added to your mana pool by the Temple can be used to pay for spells or abilities cast/activated during the step or phase it is used. These are known as mana abilities. Heck, they are so awesome you can use them in the middle of the casting process of a spell to pay for costs.
