Swiftfoot Boots vs Instant speed removal?
Asked by mossflower 13 years ago
So I have a Puresteel Paladin equipped with Swiftfoot Boots (along with lands and other equipments) on the field. I play Goblin Gaveleer , and since I have priority, equip the Swiftfoot Boots from the Puresteel Paladin onto the Goblin Gaveleer . My opponent makes a Go for the Throat on my Goblin Gaveleer while the equip ability is on the stack, killing it. My question is if there any point in time where my opponent could also Dismember my Puresteel Paladin ?
I'm hoping the answer is no, because I told him that since the equip doesn't have a legal target when it's supposed to resolve, it doesn't resolve and the Swiftfoot Boots is never unequipped. Did I lie?

Darksteel Garrison . It was a Future Sight card, so you might speculate that it will be a card type that returns in a later set.

You were correct. If for some reason the equip ability fizzles (due to the target becoming illegal, for example), then the equipment stays on whatever it was originally equipping.
701.3b If an effect tries to attach an Aura, Equipment, or Fortification to an object it cant be attached to, the Aura, Equipment, or Fortification doesnt move. If an effect tries to attach an Aura, Equipment, or Fortification to the object its already attached to, the effect does nothing.
On an unrelated note, it's good to be home. Trying to type Q&A answers on a phone was a nightmare.
