Stacking ETB with Panharmonicon

Asked by Opifex 7 years ago

I have Panharmonicon on the battlefield, an Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim and a Fiend Hunter with Ashen Rider, and Karmic Guide on his LTB return from exile. If I sacrifice Fiend Hunter can I sacrifice Ashen Rider in time to return them both with Karmic Guide and rinse repeat?

No, you choose the targets for a spell or ability as part of the process of putting it on the stack and you won't get priority to sacrifice the Ashen Rider until after the Karmic Guide's triggered ability has been put on the stack, so the Ashen Rider won't be in the graveyard at the time you're choosing targets for Karmic Guide.

@ Lame_Duck and Opifex: The above explanation is wrong if I understand the original post correctly.

You have a Fiend Hunter (that exiled a Karmic Guide) and an Ashen Rider on the field. You also have a Panharmonicon on the field.

You can sac the fiend hunter and put its triggered ability of bringing Karmic Guide back from exile on the stack. You then have an opportunity to sac Ashen Rider before the guide gets back into play. Then when the guide comes back into play his ETB trigger will go on the stack, and it's at that time you choose targets. So both the rider and the hunter will be eligible targets.

pskinn01 My original question was if the LTB return goes on the stack before the ETB ability does. Allowing me to sack from there. But your post does help me tech out a strategy if I want to. Flicker something else with Fiend Hunter and have nothing in the graveyard.
