Split Second

Asked by Godfingerslash 11 years ago

Since I just came back from quite a long hiatus from playing MTG, I kind of forgot how Split Second really works so I hope you guys can give me good refresher.

How does Split Second really functions? Does it wear off after the spell with Split Second fully resolves on the stack, or does it shut down the entire stack for the entire turn even after that spell with Split Second finishes resolution?

All it does it prevent people from responding WHILE the spell is on the stack. Plus, is it to much to google this? That's how I got the answer.

@jonhydude: Hehe, thanks. I first posted this question before I searched in Google to make sure. I appreciate your response :)

Split Second: While this spell is on the stack, no new spells or abilities can be put on the stack.

Simple.

Note that things that trigger off spells with split second being cast are still put on the stack (the wording is that players can't play spells or activate abilities; triggers aren't mentioned). Things like Talrand, Sky Summoner 's trigger, Sphinx-Bone Wand 's trigger, or Animar, Soul of Elements 's trigger (off of Quagnoth , for instance) will still trigger and be placed on the stack above the Split Second spell.

Triggered abilities can still happen. A guy in my playgroup countered a Krosan Grip with a Mystic Snake he flipped off Lurking Predators .
