Rasputin Dreamweaver ruling

Asked by ZeGinger 9 years ago

Since the inclusion of the new colorless mana identity, I am curious as to how that interacts with the old school card Rasputin Dreamweaver who based on his text can make colorless mana.

  1. Is that mana the same mana used to cast spells with the devoid symbol? (I assume yes but second opinions op)

  2. If that is so does that mean he goes infinite with Eldrazi Displacer?

This is going to be my next big edh deck if this is true. I enjoy building decks with old card commanders for the giggles.

If it was reprinted today, Rasputin Dreamweaver would read:

Remove a dream counter from Rasputin Dreamweaver: add to your mana pool.

So yes, and yes.

First rule of working with old cards (especially since a new, potentially confusing change to the entire game has been made) is check the oracle text. This is the first thing you want to do as it will clear up a lot of questions for you. Clicky clicky

Short answer, yes, you will get infinite colourless mana. Gemstone Array + Deadeye Navigator might also be something you're looking for as well.

Every flicker deck considers getting Rasputin Dreamweaver if not just for the name already.

I'm a fan of this card simply for the plethora of combos you can use with him :p the idea that with the right card you can literally cast your library with him sounds fun to me.

"The Devoid Symbol" does not exist.

The thing you think is anything new is just a symbol change for colorless mana which already existed.
