Protection with Death Touch+Trample mechanics?

Asked by BaBaBLaCkSHeeT 11 years ago

Protection from color/creature applies with the acronym "DEBT"

Definitions of DT/Trample listed at bottom. They don't state "target" by definition.

So my question occurs to a situation that occurred while playing the other night. EXAMPLE:

Declare: Polukranos, World Eater as an attacker no monstrosity 5/5

Declare: Precinct Captain and Boros Reckoner , tapping one mana to give him first-strike as well.

In response I tapped mana to blood rush in Wasteland Viper , and Ghor-Clan Rampager , on my Polukranos, World Eater . Making him a 10/11 w/ dt and trample until end of turn.

Defender responds with Brave the Elements giving them both protection from green.

Now as I understand trample goes over "lethal damage" so do I get to assign one to both and trample player for 8 damage? Or due to them now having protection from green my death touch is no longer lethal? Must I assign 3 lethal to boros, and 2 to the captain?

Sorry for the lengthy outlay but wanted to make it clear! Thanks in advance!

Death Touch-"Whenever a creature with this ability deals damage to another creature, the creature dealt damage is destroyed, regardless of the creature's toughness. It does not affect creatures like Protean Hydra whose effect prevents the damage."

Trample-"Trample is an ability that is used when the creature attacks and is blocked by an opponent's creature. When a creature with Trample attacks and is blocked, any damage not dealt to the blocking creature goes through and does damage to the player."

Lethal Damage assignment is only as much damage as -would be- lethal ignoring anything that modifies, prevents or replaces damage.

You would need to assign what -would be- lethal damage to each blocker (1 and 1, thanks to deathtouch) and then the rest can trample over, even though that one damage, being green, isn't going to actually destroy the blockers.
