Pridemate counters - with Daxos and Linden

Asked by BluePeter 4 years ago

Scenario 1: I have Daxos, Blessed by the Sun in play. I cast Ajani's Pridemate. Daxos triggers to give me one life (Whenever another creature you control enters the battlefield or dies, you gain 1 life.)

Which triggers the Pridemate (Whenever you gain life, put a +1/+1 counter on Ajani's Pridemate) to get a +1/+1 counter.

So the Pridemate comes in as 2/2 and immediately get a +1/+1 counter. Is this correct?

Scenario 2: I have Linden, the Steadfast Queen in play. I have Ajani's Pridemate in play. I have 2 other arbitrary white creatures in play. I move to combat and declare 4 attackers. Linden's ability triggers (Whenever a white creature you control attacks, you gain 1 life.) There are 4 life gain events, and the Pridemate gets 4 x +1/+1 counters. Again, is this correct?

Daxos, Blessed by the Sun, Ajani's Pridemate, Linden, the Steadfast Queen

1/ Almost correct - you do not gain the counter immediately, but only after both the Daxos and the Pridemate abilities resolves. There are a few opportunities where the opponent can cast Shock on your pridemate prior to it receiving the counter.

2/ Yes, that is correct.

  1. Yes, thanks, its a good point. The Pridemate doesn't come in as 3/3. Stuff can go onto the stack, between casting and resolving.

  2. Scary. Linden, Heliod, and 3 Pridesmates attacking. Pridesmates all get 5 +1/+1 counters, as can Linden. Before blockers!
