Phyrexian Obliterator

So what exactly is a source your opponent controls? I know creatures or and enchantments such a Lightmine Field would count, but what about other spells such as Lightning Bolt ? would it trigger the obliterator's ability?

Yes, it does.

"Whenever a source deals damage to Phyrexian Obliterator, that source's controller sacrifices that many permanents."

The fact that it says "deals damage" reduces the Obliterator's toughness. This triggers the Obliterator's ability and the controller of the source of the damage (regardless if it is a sorcery, instant, artifact, land, creature, or enchantment) must sacrifice the permanents.

Phyrexian Obliterator makes an excellent blocker, especially against creatures larger than him. Just remember to watch for combat tricks like Turn to Frog , Stave Off , Spare from Evil , and other protection spells.

What do you mean it "reduces the Obliterator's toughness"?

Essentially, any time ANY damage is dealt to Obliterator, the player from which the damage came (the player who controlled the creature, spell, enchantment, etc. that did damage to Obliterator) must sacrifice that many permanents. Note that this is a triggered ability, and goes on the stack and therefore can be responded to or countered.

Sorry, I had edited the sentence and meant to take that part out.

"reduces the Obliterator's toughness. This" should have been removed.
