Outrider en-Kors activated ability
Asked by Zarum 13 years ago
can you use the ability multiple times using different targets to balance the damage?
I believe that you can, it doesn't specify you can't, and it's a 0-cost effect that you can activate for each point of damange. So I think you can distribute it as you wish.

Yes, you can; in fact that's the way you're "supposed" to use it. The free activation cost means you can use it as many times as you want, and the fact that each activation only redirects 1 damage means you get to pass each 1 damage along to whoever you want each time you activate it.
Think of it like this: the Outrider's about to have 5 damage dealt to it. The general shortcut is saying "I redirect 3 damage to this guy and 2 damage to this other guy." What's actually happening is you're saying "I pay 0 mana to move 1 damage of this over to here. Then I pay 0 mana to move 1 damage of this over to here. Then I pay 0 mana to...," etc. until it's all gone.
In general terms, activated abilities can be activated any time you have priority, barring some restriction in the ability itself ("...activate this only whenever you could cast a sorcery," and the like); there's no limit on the number of times they can be activated, again unless they say so; and they'll always do precisely what they say on the card - no more, no less. So if it says that it can move 1 damage, that's all it does.

608.2b If the spell or ability specifies targets, it checks whether the targets are still legal. A target that's no longer in the zone it was in when it was targeted is illegal. Other changes to the game state may cause a target to no longer be legal; for example, its characteristics may have changed or an effect may have changed the text of the spell. If the source of an ability has left the zone it was in, its last known information is used during this process. The spell or ability is countered if all its targets, for every instance of the word "target," are now illegal. If the spell or ability is not countered, it will resolve normally. However, if any of its targets are illegal, the part of the spell or ability's effect for which it is an illegal target can't perform any actions on that target or make that target perform any actions. The effect may still determine information about illegal targets, though, and other parts of the effect for which those targets are not illegal may still affect them.
to my understanding Outrider en-Kor 's ability states target creature not target creature(s)..
