Need clarification on homeward path
Asked by Owlteeth 10 years ago
I am vey confused on the affect of Homeward Path, specifically the "all creatures he or she controls." What does the card mean by all creatures I control? Is this all of the creatures in my deck, or does it refer to specific areas of play, like graveyard and battlefield only? Thanks, just want to make sure I don't accidentally cheat with this card.
First of all, rules questions belong into tje Q&A.
Second Homeward Path doesn't say anything about "creatures you control", it gives every player control over all creatures on the battlefield that this player owns. You own all cards that are in your deck or your sideboard at the begging of the game. By using Homeward Path you can negate the use of something like Insurrection since Homeward Path's ability results in everybody getting back his creatures.

On the battlefield, like Control Magic or...Soul Ransom These change who is using the creature, but who's deck it belongs to is the ultimate controller. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

FIrst off, it doesn't say "creatures you control". It says "creatures you own". There is a distinct difference. A card that you control is a permanent on the battlefield that is under your control in the game (i.e. a creature on your side of the board, or an aura you cast on your opponents creature). A card that you own is any card that started in your library or sideboard. It literally means cards that you posses ownership of. Control of a creature can be lost in-game (Act of Treason) but ownership never changes in-game, only via trade/sale/etc.
What Homeward Path does is allow everyone to regain control of the cards they own. So lets say your playing EDH and one of your opponents is using spells to gain control of everyone else's creatures and other stuff. This would allow each person to get back everything they physically owned.

Rules questions belong in the Q&A. I can't move this to the Q&A, so I'm moving it to BE.

Somebody move this. It needs to be in General.
