Mogg Maniac and damage distribution

Asked by Not_Sure 6 years ago

Mogg Maniac is on the battlefield with no enchantments, and gets Shocked, would the opponent take two damage although the maniac only has one toughness? Also, if Mogg Maniac blocked Force of Nature would the attacker take eight damage or just one because of the trample's rollover damage?

Damage is only ever marked on creatures - it never reduces toughness and the toughness of a creature has no relavance in terms of damage being dealt.

1/ 2 damage to the opponent.2/ Between 1 and 8 damage. Trampling over is completely optional - you have to assign at least lethal damage to all blockers before you can assign any to the defending player.

The defending player will end up taking 8 damage total. They attacker may assign 8 to the Mogg Maniac causing it's triggered ability to deal all 8, or, more likely, 1 damage to the Mogg Maniac and 7 to the defending player, causing the trigger to deal the last 1. Or anywhere in between.

Neotrup, mogg maniac works differently from Jackal Familiar, it can only damage an opponent and never its controller.
