Legend Rule vs Tokens

Asked by chosenone124 6 years ago

My opponent has 2 tokens from Lingering Souls, 5 elf warriors from Sylvan Offering, and 2 elf druids from Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury.

I cast Leyline of Singularity. Do any of these tokens get sacrificed? If so, what is the resultant boardstate?

Tokens that don't have a special name are named after their creature types.

Kari Zev, Skyship Raider creates a token named Ragavan. Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury creates tokens called Elf Druid.

If a player controls multiple permanents with the same english name, he choses one of them and puts the rest into his graveyard. This is a state-based action and has nothing to do with sacrificing these permanents!

In your case, your opponent choses one Spirit, one Elf Warrior, and one Elf Druid tokens and puts the rest into his graveyard.

Also, the relevant rules:

704.5k If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners graveyards. This is called the legend rule.

110.5c A spell or ability that creates a creature token sets both its name and its creature type. If the spell or ability doesnt specify the name of the creature token, its name is the same as its creature type(s). A Goblin Scout creature token, for example, is named Goblin Scout and has the creature subtypes Goblin and Scout. Once a token is on the battlefield, changing its name doesnt change its creature type, and vice versa.

So Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts' tokens have the same name as the tokens of Lingering Souls, even though they have different colors?

did he mention color? no? then yeah the tokens would have the same name because they are the same creature type.
