Is conspiracy considered eligible for a standard deck?
Asked by pastorpain 10 years ago
I'm new. I started looking online for some deck building cards and found the conspiracy block. IS it legal to use conspiracy in a standard deck?

Unfortunately, no. As an expansion, Conspiracy isn't intended to be included in the group of Standard-legal sets. There are currently only 5 cards in the set that are legal for Standard, and only because they were otherwise printed in currently Standard-legal sets: Charging Rhino, Plummet, Torch Fiend, Trumpet Blast, and Typhoid Rats. There's a similar situation for the cards that were originally printed in Modern-legal sets (that's a longer list, about 100). All other cards are only legal in Legacy and Vintage, except for the actual "Conspiracy" type cards, which are only legal for Conspiracy-format Limited play.

Some of the ''Conspiracy'' type cards are legal in Commander and therefore Tiny Leaders format.
which is why my Relentless Rats deck draws a lot of hate...

@EddCrawley: The official Commander legality policy is "Vintage legal cards" plus the Commander-specific ban list. None of the Conspiracy-type cards are legal in Vintage, so they technically aren't legal in Commander (or its derivatives) either. However, if your playgroup has house rules to allow them then feel free to go nuts.

Could their legality be rectified on TO then, as i had to replay a Commander Tourney this weekend as I had my Rats Deck, and once I had wiped out all my opposition, I was directed to the Wizards archive which showed all the Conspiracy subtype card are all Vintage and therefore Commander Banned.

Sure, make a post about it in the Tapped Out subforum and someone will come around to handle it. I'm surprised something that big got missed when the set was being put up.

And as always, make sure to check the actual official resources (WotC, MTGCommander.net) for the final word on legality, as Tapped Out still has some problems.

Nope. Standard does not use cards from releases like conspiracy, duel decks, commander, modern masters, etc. unless those cards are also printed in a standard legal set. Standard at the moment includes only Theros, Journey into Nyx, Born of the Gods, M15, Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged, and Dragons of Tarkir.
Hope this was helpful, and welcome to Magic!
