In EDH, can I tap a land such as Rupture spire for colors outside my commander's identity?

Would tapping a land that allows me to generate any color with said land for a color outside my commander's identity break the rules?
I ask this because I might take control of a creature that has abilities with costs outside of my general's identity, and I want to know if I could use those without breaking the identity rules.
From the official Commander site:
"A deck may not generate mana outside its colours. If an effect would generate mana of an illegal colour, it generates colourless mana instead."
I mean, you could try. You'd just get colorless mana. You could always use Mycosynth Lattice (so you can spend the mana as any color), or, if you're in white, Celestial Dawn .

North Star can also enable you to cast the spell without the correct color mana. If you're desperate.
If you look at newer cards like Daxos of Meletis , you'll see phrasing to enable this kind of thing.

Mac97 Damn, you missed a perfectly good opportunity to say "I said 'no' meaning 'yes'" :)

No any thing that would produce mana of any colors will be restricted on towards your comander's colors. So if my commander is Sen Triplets something like City of Brass will only give me blue, black or white mana.
