How does Master of Waves + Ghostly Flicker Work?

Asked by ChrisH 11 years ago

I have a Master of Waves on the battlefield, and there are four elemental tokens. Can I cast a Ghostly Flicker to produce as many tokens as my devotion while keeping the original four on the battlefield?

I'm thinking of making a Master of Waves noble deck. Thanks.

This will work. Since the leaving and returning both happen during the resolution of the spell, there is not a chance for state-based actions to be checked and see the old elementals being 1/0s and put them in the graveyard until after the Master of Waves is back on the battlefield.

I second Devonin, since there is no time in between Master of Waves being exiled and entering the battle field, the tokens wont die. When Master of Waves re-enters the battlefield you will put 4 more 1/0 tokens onto the field (assuming your devotion is 4)

I recommend running a Clone or 2 so you can get Master of Waves ' ability off as much as possible.

Deadeye Navigator would also be really good

What about cards like Otherworldly Journey + Master of Waves ? Can I still use that effectively?

Please remember to select an answer.

Otherworldly Journey will not work. The reason Ghostly Flicker works is that the creature is returned immediately during the resolution of the spell. If the creature is returned at a later time, then state-based actions will check between the creature leaving and reentering, and your tokens will die for being 1/0s.

Remember that state-based actions check after a spell resolves (among other times), so you need to accomplish the blink and return all at once.
