How does Glaring Spotlight interact with "creature can't be the target of spells"

Asked by wreckedd 12 years ago

Basically, do things like Asceticism and Thrun, the Last Troll actually count as hexproof?

If you check the Gatherer for those cards, you'll see that the oracle text now uses "hexproof" in place of "can't be the target of spells and abilities your opponents control." So Glaring Spotlight would work against them.

It should be noted that the Spotlight only works on hexproof, not shroud.

Gatherer has the official oracle text for all cards. Oracle text essentially means updated text, and it's always the Oracle text that counts for the rules.

for instance, the Oracle Text for Thrunn has updated him to actually have the keyword "Hexproof"

The Oracle Text for Asceticism also has been updated to give creatures hexproof

Do be careful to check the Oracle stuff, though, and not just assume older cards have been updated.

Shielding Plax , for instance, looks like it would be reworded to hexproof. But there's a subtle difference - because it's not hexproof, you can toss it on your opponent's creatures and prevent them from casting stuff on their own dudes. Which won't come up often, but will be hilarious when it does.

Definitely a good point, MagnorCriol.
