Grafted Exoskeleton removed from Perilous Myr: Does it still have infect?
Asked by scottschultz 13 years ago
If I unequip Grafted Exoskeleton from my Perilous Myr , then I know my myr dies. My question is: Does the myr do 2 infect damage or two regular damage?
The obvious answer seems to be that it no longer has infect if it is no longer equipped, but I'm hoping something about the stacking would cause the infect to remain.

It still has infect, since priority was not passed and statebased actions have not been checked, so it uses the last known values, in which the myr has infect same thing applies to a Mogg Fanatic with a Basilisk Collar .

I'm not so sure about this. The wording on exoskeleton seems to imply the the equipment has already been unattached, then if that successfully happens you sacrifice as a result. If the wording were more like Piston Sledge and the cost was to sacrifice then I would see how it would be the same as the mogg/basilisk combo.

The fact the you unequip then sac does mean that you do not get to do infect damage, the equipment is already removed before the creature is sacrificed.

TimProctor gave the first correct answer. Grafted Exoskeleton triggers when it becomes unequipped, so the Perilous Myr is not equipped by it when that triggered ability resolves. When they Myr's own ability triggers and is put onto the stack, it does not have infect, and the damage dealt by the ability when it resolves is normal damage.

TimProctor was correct. You equip grafted exoskeleton to another creature after being attached to perilous myr. Perilous myr no longer has the exoskeleton attached and the exoskeleton triggers. You sac the perilous myr, it checks for the last information known about the myr, which is that it did not have the exoskeleton equipped and thus did not have infect.
Mogg Fanatic with a Basilisk Collar is different because when you sac the Mogg the basilisk collar is still attached and thus it deals damage that is lethal as the last known info about it was that it had lifelink and deathtouch.
I feel I should point out for clarification purposes that you can't unequip a creature. You must equip the equipment to another creature in order for it to be unequipped. This is noted by the equip rules text.

Oh and one more note. Priority is passed before you sac the perilous myr. The grafted exoskeleton unattach is a triggered ability that goes on the stack and as a result you may respond to it. Therefore you can cast Tainted Strike if you'd like before allowing the ability to resolve and you'll deal infect damage.

No.
"Whenever Grafted Exoskeleton becomes unattached from a permanent, sacrifice that permanent."
So in order for you to sacrifice the Myr you need to unattach the equipment, which removes the infect.
Now if the Myr dies from another source it would do infect damage as the equipment is still attached.
