Generating Lands via tokens

Asked by LordVonChimp 2 years ago

So I'm playing Esix, Fractal Bloom .

Say I have a source make a Land a 1/1 creature until End of turn. Then cast Hornet Queen chosing to make the 4 instect tokens copies of the 1/1 Land instead.

What happens to those token 1/1 lands, would the remain on the battlefield until other removal came long, disappear at the end of turn, or become lands at the end of turn?

also, if I make a land a creature through Nissa, Who Shakes the World , if I copied that land, would it die as it would have no counters, or would it just settle into being a land?

For your first question: the tokens would be 1/1 land creatures. The original land creature would revert to being a land at the end of the turn but the tokens would continue being 1/1 land creatures with whatever creature types and/or colors the effect making the land a creature gave it. They would keep any abilities of the land (usually tapping for mana, but sometimes other stuff). If they had a tap ability including tapping for mana, they wouldn't be able to use it until your next turn because as creatures, they have summoning sickness, but in the long term you did just make four land creatures.

Second question: Yes, the copy would die from being a 0/0, unless you had an anthem effect in play.

Honestly though I would just make them copies of Hornet Queen , because then you'll have 5 Hornet Queens and 16 Insects.

Yeah, that's the play 99% of the time, but in situations where I need some free ramp and get stuck with a bad hand for whatever reason, a bunch of mana dorks could be a useful in certain situations.

Animating a land (or any permanent) does not change its copiable characteristics. The 4 copies will be non creature land tokens in both cases.

OK, now I'm confused by Neotrup's reply. Nissa's ability makes the land a creature.

If Nissa, Who Shakes the World makes a basic Forest into a o/o elemental creature with Vigilance and Haste that's still a land with 3x +1/+1 counters. What exactly would I make a token copy of if I target it with an Esix, Fractal Bloom trigger?

Definately not the +1/+1 counters. But Neotrups answer is telling me that the token copies won't be creatures either? if that's the case, they wouldn't be targetable by Esix?

Esix, Fractal Bloom let's you choose anything that is a creature for the tokens to be copies of. The tokens will copy the cards as written (unless their copying something else, mutates, or face down). This means you can copy the land because they're creatures, but the copies won't be creatures.
