Geist and Double Strike/Flickering and Targetting

Asked by PasorofMuppets 13 years ago

Hello, if I have say, a Silverblade PaladinMTG Card: Silverblade Paladin paired with a Geist of Saint TraftMTG Card: Geist of Saint Traft, does the double strike on the Geist make it such that a second angel attacks for damage as well?

Also, I know if I flicker a creature that was targetted by a kill spell, the kill spell fizzles as the creature is techincally a different creature, does this work with ETB effects like Oblivion RingMTG Card: Oblivion Ring or Fiend HunterMTG Card: Fiend Hunter as well? Example:Player 1 has Silverblade PaladinMTG Card: Silverblade Paladin out.Player 2 plays Fiend HunterMTG Card: Fiend Hunter, it resolves and as it ETBs Player 2 targets Silverblade -- can I Flash in Restoration AngelMTG Card: Restoration Angel in response to the targeting and flicker Silverblade?

Thanks for the help.

No. Doublestrike doesn't cause a second angel to be created. Nor is doublestrike given to the angel, only to the geist and the paladin.

Sure. It is still targetting, and its only target becomes illegal (it no longer exists. The flickered creature is a new object).
Example:Player 1 has Silverblade Paladin out.Player 2 plays Fiend Hunter, it resolves and as it ETBs Player 2 targets Silverblade -- can I Flash in Restoration Angel in response to the targeting and flicker Silverblade?
Sure.

To more clearly answer the first question: double strike doesn't make a creature attack twice, but makes it deal damage twice in combat ("attack" and "deal damage" aren't the same thing). If Geist of Saint TraftMTG Card: Geist of Saint Traft has double strike and attacks, his Angel-making ability only triggers once, because he only attacked once. However, St. Traft will deal damage twice in combat - once in the first strike damage step and again in the normal damage step.

Do note that flicker does not work on a token since a token cant exist in another zone then the battlefield

pairing the silverblade with the angel token is the clever move with geist. dealing 8 in the air.
