Emrakul and Phantasmal Image

Asked by -MisterJ- 11 years ago

So opponent resolves Emrakul, the Aeons Torn during their turn. Upon resolution I start the stack by tapping AEther Vial and cheating Phantasmal Image into play.

My question is simply who takes extra turns? In my mind since the opponent has extra turn first, then my Emrakul resolves and I have extra turn second, the turn pattern should resolve back to the original routine after the opponent passes.

Secondary question so I don't have to post another thingy since this is about the same deck... Merrow Reejerey , does his own ability allow me to untap something when I cast him?

You won't get any extra turns. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn (EAT) creates an extra turn when it is cast. Phantasmal Image A) copies EAT as it enters the battlefield, not when it is cast; and B) is not even being cast when you use AEther Vial .

If multiple players gain extra turns in a single turn, the most recently created extra turn is the first one to be taken. If EAT had an enters trigger (which the illusion would then use), you would get your extra turn before the EAT player got theirs.

For Merrow Reejerey : No. Abilities only work while the creature with the ability is on the battlefield (unless the ability indicates otherwise). The Reejerey triggers when a Merfolk spell is cast, not when a Merfolk enters the battlefield, so the Reejerey won't be in play to see himself getting cast. If it was an "enters the battlefield" trigger, yes, you could untap something when he himself enters the battlefield.

Yeah I thought so, Just wanted to check it out. Thanks for the help. Seems my only answer to EAT is not a good one really unless I have 6 perms to sac out, and still hope to deal fatal damage the next turn I receive. When I block with my EAT both will die and be shuffled back in I'm assuming, then any solid TRON player will just Eye of Ugin to do it again.

Because of how Emrakul's shuffle ability is worded, it triggers from the graveyard rather than from the battlefield (as a "dies" trigger) would. The Image dying would not cause a shuffle. Yes, this is somewhat strange.
