Drannith Magistrate vs Violent Outbust

Asked by K4nkato 1 year ago

My opponent plays Violent Outburst intending to cascade into Crashing Footfalls. In response I use Aether Vial to put Drannith Magistrate onto the battlefield.

Can Crashing Footfalls resolve?

Drannith Magistrate doesn't stop anything from resolving. It only prohibits spells from being cast. Therefore; it matters exactly when you Vialed in the Drannith Magistrate. If you did it in response to the cascade trigger, nothing can be cast from exile and Crashing Footfalls will not be cast. If you let the cascade trigger resolve, Crashing Footfalls has already been cast, and Drannith Magistrate will do nothing. Allowing the cards to be revealed means that you have let the cascade resolve. There is no point when you will know what the revealed card is and prevent it from being cast. Knowing what the deck is means you will know what they intend to cascade into, but once cards start getting revealed there can be no responses until the cascaded into spell is cast.

Excellent, so my plan works, but I have to Aether vial the Magistrate in when Violent Outburst is cast.
