please link all cards in your question by enclosing the card name in doube brackets.

Invigorated Rampage

Initiate's Companion

Yes, all damage done during the combat damage step as a result of the creature attacking or blocking is "combat damage".

(And the link for the creature is broken, here's a picture instead)enter image description here

colton815: Please refrain from posting anything if you are going to belittle people for not knowing something you think is obvious. Different people enjoy different aspects of the game and have different levels of confidence in their abilities and knowledge.

The OP obviously either does not care much for the intricacies of the rules and enjoys another aspect of the game or else is unsure of their knowledge for another reason. Either way they asked a question because they want to play the game correctly and should be encouraged to continue doing so. They should not be made to feel bad for wanting to play by the rules.

Gidgetimer its not that i "think" its obvious, it IS obvious. and "enjoying different aspects of the game" is irrelevant. it doesnt matter which aspects you enjoy, obvious rules are obvious.

Sorry, what are you contributing to this thread, again?

First, I find most rules to be obvious and my third ever game was against a casual stack exploitation deck of my buddy's that was 2 cards off from a deck that became popular in modern a few years later; Titanbloom. I understood what the deck did perfectly without explanation beyond just having to read cards. This does not mean I am an asshole to people that do not perfectly understand the stack and priority because I feel "obvious rules are obvious". So if you have nothing to contribute please don't comment.

Second, if for some reason you feel "lol, dumbass" is contributing please be sure that the rest of your post is 100% correct. The only one of the three things you listed that matter to it being combat damage is the fact that creatures are the only things that do combat damage. If I were to cast Pit Fight in combat because I had combat only buffs I wanted on the creature it isn't magically combat damage. Combat damage is not all of a sudden not combat damage because Doran, the Siege Tower is out. The ONLY thing that matters for determining if something is combat damage is that it was dealt by an attacking or blocking creature as a turn based action during the combat damage step.

There are MANY things that can or do deal damage during combat and not all of them are combat damage. It is understandable that someone is unclear on if an ability changes it from combat damage to just damage during combat. So please for the love of god just follow Wheaton's law. enter image description here

"How new are you that you don't know obvious rules" is belittling the person. I'm sorry that you don't seem to understand that or that such phrases do boil down to "lol, dumbass" because you are contributing nothing and just trying to make yourself feel better by saying "look at me. I knew this and am superior to the person that didn't". There was literally no other reason to make the comment that you did since you didn't clear up anything that I hadn't already said.

Also while you may know what is and isn't combat damage the three criteria you posted lead to both false positives and false negatives. This means that what you posted is not correct. Please look at the examples I posted again and realize that if I can, with minimal thought, provide examples of both false positives and false negatives the criteria are not good ones to use.

I am done trying to get you to realize that what you said was both unnecessary and rude. Please in the future try to consider if what you want to say contributes anything to the discussion. If it passes that test please consider if you are saying it in a rude manner and change it so that it is not rude if it is.
