Does Krark-Clan Ironworks' ability use the stack?

Asked by rpgtiger 7 years ago

Krark-Clan Ironworks' ability is a mana ability, and I was under the impression that mana abilities didn't use the stack. So does that mean that if a player with KCI out has another artifact become targeted with Krosan Grip, can he sacrifice the artifact for two colorless mana in response, despite it having split second?

"players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities" as per split second's reminder text. as KCI's ability is a mana ability like you said, yes you can do that as neither sacrificing nor mana abilities use the stack.

This doesn't really have to do with the fact that mana abilities don't use the stack, but with the fact split second allows them to slip through. If your opponent had Grand Abolisher (and it was their turn) or Null Rod on the field you wouldn't be able to activate Krark-Clan Ironworks.

But I'm still correct either way.
