Diplomatic Immunity vs Wither
Asked by ArachnidGoat 6 years ago
Since wither is a static ability, and a target is not being chosen if the owner of the creature with Diplomatic Immunity declares a blocker, how does wither effect the creature with that enchantment??

So if i control a creature with wither, and attack, If the opponent declares a creature with Diplomatic Immunity attached, it DOES place a -1/-1 counter on that creature? Or it Does not? I guess i don't understand your response. Please clarify.

Diplomatic Immunity has no effect on the interaction at all. If a creature with Diplomatic Immunity on it blocks a Scuzzback Scrapper it will have a -1/-1 counter put on it. If a creature with Diplomatic Immunity on it blocks Boggart Ram-Gang it will have three -1/-1 counters put on it.
Neither combat damage, nor the replacement effect created by wither target. Therefore; Diplomatic Immunity will not do anything since nothing is trying to target the creature it is enchanting.

A creature with Wither deals damage to other creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters. This is not a targeting effect, so Shroud (the ability that Diplomatic Immunity has and grants) can't prevent it, same as regular damage.
If you have a non-Wither creature that is blocked by the creature with Diplomatic Immunity , it will still deal its damage as normal. A creature with Wither will also still deal its damage as normal, its damage will just be in the form of -1/-1 counters. Same with a creature that has Infect.
