Can you negate a vehicle?

Asked by Ertaimasterwizard 7 years ago

If my opponent cast a Smuggler's Copter, am I able to Negate it since it doesn't say it's a creature until crewed?

Would the same be true with Fleetwheel Cruiser?

I guess by saying if I can or not, would also answer if you could search for a vehicle in your deck with something that searches just for creates.

On the stack, a Vehicle is a non-creature artifact. The Crew ability can only be activated while it is on the battlefield. Therefore, yes, you can Negate a Smuggler's Copter and, no, you cannot Chord of Calling a Smuggler's Copter.

The same is true for a Fleetwheel Cruiser. The only difference is that you do not need to crew it when it enters the battlefield.

The answer is yes. You CAN Negate a vehicle card. If you look at the card Smuggler's Copter; you will see that it actually doesn't have the supertype "Creature". Therefore, it is not a Creature.

The crew effect to make them a Creature is an activated ability so it must be a permanent on the battlefield in order to become a Creature. Fleetwheel Cruiser has an ETB effect that triggers and makes it into a Creature, but that's again, only when it is on the battlefield.

You cannot use a card like Collected Company or Chord of Calling to search for a Vehicle because the card doesn't have the supertype "Creature", therefore, in the Library, Hand, Graveyard, Exile, Stack, and sometimes on the battlefield if it isn't crewed: it's just an "Artifact" and not an "Artifact Creature".

@IzzetGod: Just to clarify, "creature" is not a supertype. It's just a type. Basic, legendary, and world are supertypes.

Epochalyptik: Ah ok. Thanks for the clear up. I always though just all those types in general were supertypes. So I figured when people said "type" or "supertype" that is was both the same thing.
